At RLA we design with nature to deliver lasting change.
Nature is not dogmatic or lineal or predictive, so our approach is one of working with natures pattern.

Careful consideration is taken to implement the right tools in our assessments of landscape function. Fromm urban to rural aspects we apply design strategies and deliver on the ground outcomes. No one single set of techniques, approaches or disciplines takes precedence over another because of its popularity. The choices are solely dependant on nature and when she’s ready.

Nick Huggins – Director
I’ve been working with soil since childhood, and for more than 30 years I’ve dedicated my career to regenerative practice. My foundations are in horticulture, with further knowledge in Holistic Management, Regenerative Agriculture, Permaculture, and Keyline Design.
Over the years I’ve supported landholders and organisations to grow economically viable businesses that work with nature to create abundance. My experience spans hands-on practice, biological amendments, holistic grazing, regenerative landscape design, and the roles of educator, speaker, and mentor.
The philosophy that guides my work is simple: “When you know better, do better.”
About RL Australia
At RL Australia, based on Djiringanj Country in Bega, we create landscapes that are ecologically rich, biodiverse, and productive.
With decades of experience in regenerative practice, our team blends proven design methods with deep respect for nature’s systems.
Our focus is on practical, on-ground outcomes that restore ecosystems and strengthen resilience for the long term.
Our Vision
At RL Australia, we believe sustainability is not enough—it often means maintaining the status quo. Our ambition is regeneration: restoring landscapes, communities, and ecosystems, while moving towards antifragile food systems and resilient local economies.

Our Approach
At RL Australia, we believe sustainability is not enough—it often means maintaining the status quo. Our ambition is regeneration: restoring landscapes, communities, and ecosystems, while moving towards antifragile food systems and resilient local economies.
1. Understand the eco-literacy of land stewards.
2. Walk country and assess ecosystem health
3. Define a holistic context for the landscape's future
4. Gather knowledge and identify the whole under management.
5. Develop and implement practical works.
6. Establish a feedback loop—plan, implement, monitor, and adapt.
What We Do at RL Australia
Tree Systems & Reforestation
We apply evolving planting methods suited to each unique landscape. By restoring forests and habitats, we stabilise soils, support biodiversity, and create lasting benefits for all life.
Grassland Ecology
Manage and establish natural vegetation communities. Design and recreate productive tree systems for landscapes and development projects.
Soil & Fungi
Healthy soil underpins all life. We work with natural fungal networks to build organic matter, cycle nutrients, and increase water infiltration—laying the foundation for thriving ecosystems and human health.

Water Systems
Guiding water flow across the landscape regenerates springs, aquifers, and soils while improving water quality and building resilience against drought.
Designing With Nature
Our designs learn from nature’s patterns and apply them with precision. Each project is tailored to land, climate, and community, ensuring outcomes are both practical and regenerative.
Frequently Asked Questions
What services does RLA provide?
At RLA we design and deliver regenerative landscape solutions. This includes large-scale tree planting and reforestation, grassland regeneration, soil and water restoration, and nature-based landscape design for both rural and urban contexts.
Who do you work with?
We work with a wide range of clients—from private landholders and farmers to councils, developers, and organisations seeking long-term environmental outcomes.
What makes RLA different from a standard landscaping company?
Our focus is regeneration, not just aesthetics. We create ecologically rich and resilient landscapes that improve soil health, restore water systems, increase biodiversity, and deliver results with exceptionally high plantsurvival rates.
Do you only work on large projects?
While we specialise in large-scale landscape regeneration, we also partner with private landholders on smaller properties who want to restore and enhance their land. Each project is tailored to the client’s goals and the land’s unique needs.
How do you ensure high plant survival rates?
We carefully match species to site conditions, prepare soils with biological amendments, and apply proven planting methods. Ongoing monitoring and adaptive management mean our plant survival rates are industry leading.
What’s your approach to water management?
Understanding water flow is central to our design. We spread and retain water across the landscape to recharge aquifers, regenerate soils, and build resilience against drought.
How does the process work if I engage RLA?
We follow a six-step regenerative process—beginning with walking country and assessing ecosystem health, then creating a holistic context for the land. From there, we design and implement practical works and establish a feedback loop for monitoring and adaptation.

Do you offer ongoing support after a project is complete?
Yes. Regeneration is an ongoing process. We provide guidance, monitoring, and mentoring to help clients manage their landscapes and adapt as conditions change.
Where are you based and do you work nationally?
We are based on Djiringanj Country in Bega, NSW. While much of our work is in south-eastern Australia, we collaborate on projects across the country and consult nationally.
How do I get started?
Reach out via our contact page or email us directly. We’ll arrange an initial conversation to understand your goals and the needs of your land, and from there we can design the best pathway forward.
